What became available?
Managed Knowledge Base is a fully managed RAG service. AWS says it handles ingestion, storage optimization and advanced retrieval so teams can build agents grounded in enterprise data without operating separate data pipelines and vector databases.
Native connectors include Amazon S3, SharePoint, Confluence, Google Drive, OneDrive and Web Crawler, alongside automatic synchronization, hybrid search, document ranking and agentic retrieval.
Why does it matter for enterprise RAG?
Production RAG typically requires ingestion, vector storage, indexing, retrieval and synchronization. Managed services can reduce this operational load and leave teams more capacity for knowledge quality and organizational controls.
Managed infrastructure does not replace architecture decisions around permissions, document quality, data boundaries, answer evaluation and agent connections.
What this means for organizations
The update reinforces the Knowledge Layer as distinct Enterprise AI infrastructure, not merely a chatbot feature.
Whether infrastructure is managed or internal, ingestion, retrieval, access and evaluation still need controlled implementation.
